Baloch ‘linked with Afghanistan’

Kabul, September 03: Frontier Corps Balochistan Inspector General has accused rebels in Pakistan’s volatile province of links with foreign militants crossing through the Afghan border.

Major Gen. Saleem Nawaz said Kabul-based rebel leader Brahamdagh Bugti was directly controlling the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and Baloch Republican Army (BRA) militia from Afghanistan.

Islamabad has undeniable evidence regarding terrorist activities in Balochistan masterminded by Bugti, Nawaz stressed during an interview on Wednesday.

The official said there were no military operations being carried out at the time in the oil-rich but impoverished province, shaken by insurgent attacks and bombing activities of separatists.

Nawaz said that military is present in Sui and Chamalang areas of the province upon an order from the government and would retire at Islamabad’s discretion.

The general ruled out the presence of any Taliban camps or hideouts in the region, attributing the terrorist moves to militants who enter the country with arms and ammunition from neighboring Afghanistan.
