Actor Nandamuri Balakrishna today refuted news reports in a section of the media that he was contemplating to contest from a Lok Sabha seat in the coming elections.
Speaking to the media here, Balakrishna made it clear that he would contest from an Assembly constituency. It may be recalled that a section of the media published news reports that Balakrishna would contest from the Hindupuram Lok Sabha constituency. He said that he would contest only from an Assembly constituency which will be chosen by the party supremo. Stating that only opportunist elements were leaving the party for temporary benefits, Balakrishna said the party would not be affected by a few desertions. Opining that political leaders switching loyalties was common on the eve of every election, he alleged that some leaders were leaving the TDP for their selfish ends.
Stating that the TDP has overwhelming people’s support, Balakrishna said he would inform the party from which constituency he would like to contest and the party will take a final decision. Alleging that former chief minister late Dr YSR had encouraged defections from one party to another, Balakrishna said he would abide by the party’s decision. (NSS)
