Balapur: a shining example of Hindu-Muslim unity

At a time when communal hatred is incited among the people in India and minds are polluted by hate, intolerance and prejudice, Dargah Hazrat Baba Sharfuddin Soharwardi offers a shining example of Hindu-Muslim unity and national integrity. Balapur is considered a communally sensitive area, but every year during the Urs of Hazrat Baba Sharfuddin Soharwardi, the area wears a festive look.

It is believed that after attaining divine knowledge from Shaikh Shahabuddin Soharwardi, Hazrat Baba Sharfuddin was ordered to head towards India. Thus he stayed at the outskirts of Hyderabad which is today called as Pahadi Shareef. It is also believed that in 640 Hijri when he arrived at the soil of Deccan he stayed at a house in Balapur. Today the house is a sacred place for Hindus of Balapur. A Hindu family looks after the house. 65 year old T Satya Goud, father of two sons and daughters, and his wife Sheela told that their family is looking after the house for nearly 4 generations. His grand fathers had to say that Hazrat Baba Sharfuddin stayed in the house for nearly 10 years and then shifted to Pahadi Shareef.

Satya’s relatives told that today our house and family members are prosperous and protected from diseases and evil spirits; this is all because of taking care of Baba’s house.
