Anantapur, September 12: Former chief minister NTR’s son and noted actor Nandamuri Balakrishna on Sunday announced his entry into active politics.
Talking to a private news channel while participating in a stars’ cricket match at Anantapur district, Balakrishna said that he would contest the next general elections. However, he was yet to decide on the constituency.
Stating that all constituencies are equal to him, Balakrishna said that he would not confine himself to any particular region. Reiterating that he would play an active role in Telugu Desam Party, he clarified that he had no intention to become Chief Minister, at this point of juncture.
Balakrishna made it clear that he would first strengthen the party, established by his father and late NTR and popularize his schemes by taking them to the ground-level.
The actor’s statement assumes importance in the wake of ongoing war for succession between Nandamuri and Nara family members. NTR’s son Harikrishna had earlier accused Chandrababu Naidu of trying to overshadow NTR’s image by reducing the importance of Nandamuri family members in the party.
However, to bridge the gap between the two families, Balakrishna’s daughter Brahmani was married to Naidu’s son Lokesh. But, it appears that the marriage has failed to suppress the political ambitions of Balakrishna who wants to try his luck in the electoral politics.
On the other side, Harikrishna has been trying to gain control of the Telugu Desam Party by using his son Junior NTR. However, with Balakrishna’s entry into active politics, the TDP is likely to witnesses an intense war of succession.
