Bakhtawar Bhutto: ‘This is not Islam’ to arrest people for eating in Ramzan

New Delhi: Daughter of Benazir Bhutto, Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari yesterday tweeted and criticised the law of sentencing people for eating in Ramzan and condemned her country’s hypocrisy for letting terrorists to roam freely.

According to a report of TOI, She termed “ridiculous” the Ehtram-e-Ramadan Ordinance by which those “eating openly” during Ramzan will be given a three-month jail sentence. The 1981 Zia-ul-Haq-era ordinance was earlier this week made even more strict with hiked monetary penalties.

She pointed out that no one was arrested when there were attempts to kill Malala Yusafzai, but if someone drinks water in Ramzan, will be put behind the bars.

According to the ordinance, the fine has been raised from RS 500 to Rs 25,000. Whereas, for resturaunts who won’t comply with the amendment may have to pay Rs 500,000 or more. She also questioned, those who are small and who are diseased, how can they be arrested for drinking water.
