Bajrang Dal attack on mother-son duo, Farzan succumbs to injuries

AHMEDABAD: 32-year-old Farzan Saiyed, who suffered injuries after being brutally attacked a week ago by goons of ‘Bajrang Dal’ in Gujarat died on Monday.

His 52-year-old mother Roshanbiwi Syed, who was also injured and had her thumb, index finger and middle finger mercilessly chopped off by Bajrang Dal men is recovering from illness at the hospital, according to reports published in Indian Express.

The police arrested five of the seven accused in the case and probe is on to track down the other two culprits.

It was reported earlier that Bajrang Dal goons at Chhatral town of Gandhinagar district attack mother-son duo while on the way to their field on March 5 for failing to obey their diktat of remaining indoors.

Members of the Muslim community and relatives of Farzan at VS Hospital on Monday morning refused to accept his body after post-mortem examination unless their demands of arrest all seven accused and compensation to the family are met.

Dalit leader and Vadgam MLA Jignesh Mevani had also visited the hospital and joined the protesters. He said, “Time and again memorandums have been given to the Collector and the SP about violence in the area, but no action has been taken.”

However, after day long protest, the relatives agreed to accept the body of Farnaz after it was conveyed to them that all culprits were detained.
