Mumbai: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s epic love saga “Bajirao Mastani” is leading the Global Indian Music Academy Awards nominations by bagging nine nods in categories including best film album and best music director for the filmmaker.

The Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone starrer, whose music was widely appreciated by listeners last year, has also earned nods for best music arranger & programmer, best engineer, best background score, best playback singer (female) for Shreya Ghoshal (for two songs), best playback singer (male) for Arijit Singh and best film song.

Oscar-winning composer A R Rahman’s “Tamasha” is second on the nominations list with seven nods, including best background score, best playback singer (female) for Alka Yagnik, best playback singer (male) for Mohit Chauhan, best music director, best lyricist for Irshad Kamil, best film song and best film album.

“I am really happy to be nominated for this year’s Global Indian Music Academy Awards across 4 categories for ‘Tamasha’. It is always a great feeling when your work is appreciated by the fraternity. GiMA is a great platform that recognises the efforts of the artists and their contributions every year,” Rahman said in a statement here.

“Roy”, which has earned the best music honour at various award functions this season, lags behind the top two with six nominations– best playback singer (male) for Arijit, best music director for Ankit Tiwari, Amaal Mallik & Meet Bros Anjjan, best lyricist for Kumar, best film song among others.

Also bagging nominations in the film category are albums of movies “Piku”, “Dil Dhadakne Do”, “Dilwale”, “ABCD 2” and “Badlapur”.

Also included in GiMa awards are 10 non-film categories in which musicians across different genres are honoured for their exemplary work.

The voting process is open only to members from the Indian music industry and is monitored by KPMG, the official process validators for the awards.

Nominees are selected by the GiMA Jury Panel, comprising experts across various genres of the music industry.

The Academy, comprising over 350 members of the music and film industry, votes for the final winners in a secret ballot.

The Advisory Board plays an important part in streamlining the Awards process and all major decisions are taken with the consensus of the Board.
