Bajaj Auto May sales up one pct, domestic growth misses estimates

New Delhi: Maharashtra-based two-wheeler maker Bajaj Auto registered a growth of one percent over 3.45 lakh units sold in a time period of one year, thereby witnessing lower-than-expected growth in motorcycles and domestic business.

The company sold 3.47 lakh units in May that affected an increase in motorcycle sales by two percent year-on-year to 3.07 lakh units while commercial vehicles (three-wheeler) sales declined seven percent to 40,311 units in month gone by.

Domestic business registered a 9.4 percent growth at 2.04 lakh units while exports fell 10 percent to 1.43 lakh units in May.

As per the figures estimated by Nomura, the overall sales growth stands at 6.5 percent, of which motorcycles sales stands at 7.7 percent and domestic at 24.9 percent respectively while the 3-wheeler sales were likely to fall 1.3 percent and exports declined 15 percent in May compared to the year-ago period.

“The market share of company will be maintained at 20 percent levels in June and July, it will see lower sales both in domestic market and exports,” said Bajaj Auto’s Business Development president S. Ravikumar. (ANI)
