Bahraini forces wage more attacks

Manama, April 15: Saudi and Bahraini forces have reportedly demolished two other mosques in the north and eastern Bahrain as part of a new scare tactic against the protesting public.

The demolishing measures took place on Thursday in the town of Hamad, a Media correspondent reported.

The forces razed another mosque in the city of Sitra, where they had earlier imposed a siege. There were also reports of soldiers’ setting up checkpoints in and around the city.

Over the past several weeks, the troops have destroyed several mosques.

The Saudi-backed Bahraini troops have reportedly encircled a medical center as well and destroyed numerous tribal guest houses.

Dozens of people have been killed and thousands of others injured since February 14, when the public started a popular revolution against the royal family that has been ruling the island for over 40 years.

Led by Saudi Arabia, Bahrain’s Arab neighbors deployed troops to the country in mid-March to reinforce brutal armed attacks against protesters. The reinforcements have reportedly contributed to a major hike in the use of extreme violence against protesters.

Hundreds of anti-government protesters have been arrested since the launch of the revolution.

Despite a widespread outrage against the authorities, the ruling Al-Khalifa family has urged a court action aimed at the dissolution of two opposition parties, including Al Wefaq — the Persian Gulf island’s largest political party.
