Bahrain state minister dismissed

Manama, March 23: The king of Bahrain on Monday sacked a minister who was questioned by police over money laundering suspicions, a local daily’s website reported.

King Hamad in a royal decree removed state minister Mansur bin Rajab from his post, Al-Wasat said. The decree did not give causes for the dismissal.

The interior ministry said last Friday it had detained a “Bahraini official” on money laundering charges the previous day before turning the matter over to prosecutors.

The suspect was later released for “health reasons,” said Al-Ayyam newspaper.

Media reports identified the man as Rajab, who Al-Ayyam said was suspected of having laundered more than 12 million Bahraini dinars (31.6 million dollars).
