Manama, April 21: A prominent Bahraini human rights activist says the Manama regime should be held accountable for the ongoing crimes against the anti-government protesters in Bahrain.
Despite the Saudi military presence in Bahrain, the government of Bahrain is ultimately responsible for suppressions and persecutions, Head of Bahrain Center for Human Rights Nabeel Rajab told Media in an exclusive interview on Wednesday.
The Saudis have made a lot of crimes, including crimes against humanity, in Bahrain, but the Bahraini government that invited the Saudis to Bahrain is mainly responsible, Rajab added.
Saudi Arabia has deployed its troops to Bahrain since over a month ago to help the sheikhdom quell anti-regime protests there.
Bahraini troops backed by Saudi forces, have stepped up their suppression of protesters as rallies continue across the Arab country.
This is while Saudi activists have planned to hold a rally in the eastern Saudi city of Qatif on Thursday to protest their country’s invasion of Bahrain.
Earlier on Tuesday, Saudi King Abdullah pledged full support for the government of Bahrain, saying the security of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia were intertwined and that the two states were “two bodies with one soul.”
Nabeel had earlier said that Bahraini activists and their families received death threats from the Manama regime.
The Human Rights Watch reports that more than 400 opposition activists and protesters have been arrested in Bahrain in recent weeks.
Since mid-February, thousands of anti-government protesters in Bahrain have poured into the streets, calling for an end to the rule of the Al-Khalifa dynasty.
