Baghdad market blast kills five policemen

Baghdad, August 05: A roadside bomb attack has hit a police convoy at a market in the south of the Iraqi capital, killing five policemen and injuring eight others.

The explosion, which took place at midnight on Tuesday, hit a police patrol as it was passing through the market in Baghdad’s Dora neighborhood, a police source told AFP on Wednesday on condition of anonymity.

Five civilians in a nearby crowd were also among those injured, he added.

The death toll from terror attacks in Iraq fell by a third from 437 in June to 275 in July — the first month the Iraqi forces have been in charge of security in urban areas since the US-led invasion in 2003.
