Baghdad, September 29: Two explosive devices rocked the al-Sidiya neighborhood in southern Baghdad on Tuesday, a police source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
The blasts occurred within minutes of one other, leaving four people injured, he further explained.
Baghdad saw three more explosions later in the day when two bombs went off consecutively in the al-Kadhimiya suburb and a third bomb exploded in a market in the al-Washash region.
There were no immediate reports on casualties or property damage.
Meanwhile, six people were injured in a separate explosion that hit a garage in Baghdad’s northern region of al-Kadhimiya.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari on Monday hailed Iraqi security forces for successfully maintaining safety across the country and proving that they are taking responsibility.
Zebari acknowledged that sporadic attacks by militant groups continued to occur, but on the whole, he said, the country is healing and far safer than it had been following the US-led invasion in 2003.
“The security forces really are stepping up to their responsibility and there hasn’t been a vacuum (that) many people anticipated,” he concluded.
