Bagan complains Salt Lake Stadium pitch prone to injury

Kolkata, March 17: Mohun Bagan today asked the Indian Football Association not to schedule any competitive match at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan, saying the players were prone to injury after playing on the artificial turf at the stadium.

In a letter to IFA secretary Utpal Ganguli, Mohun Bagan Managing Director-cum-General Secretary Anjan Mitra requested him to seek opinion from the AFC and FIFA regarding the matter.

“We have noticed that since the artificial turf was laid, players are getting niggling injuries. We are not getting any home team advantage either.

“Our key players, Jose Barreto and Harpreet Singh sustained serious injuries during the IFA Shield match played today against Techno Aryan. We had a talk with all our players and they are just not comfortable with the turf and they feel that it is detrimental to football,” Mitra stated in the letter.
