Guwahati: Badruddin Ajmal the perfume baron and the supremo and founder of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF ) has lost his constituency, Salmara South, to Congress’s Wazed Ali Choudhury by 16,723 votes as the results for the 14th Assembly elections in Assam were announced on Thursday.
Ajmal’s dream to become a king maker and even a deputy CM completely shattered reducing his party to the tally of 13 .Ajmal has predicted for 40 plus seats for his party.
In last assembly AIUDF had 18 members.
15 Muslims have won from Congress, 12 from AIUDF and two from Bhartiya Janata Party.
The Assam State Assembly 2016 will have 29 Muslim MLAs this year, compared to 28 in 2011.
