President of the Badminton Association of India, Akhilesh Das on Sunday announced a reward of ten lakh rupees for ace shuttler Saina Nehwal on winning the women’s singles in India Open Super Series Badminton tournament.
“This is a big achievement for Saina and Indian badminton. Young players will get encouragement. Today she has proved that she is really world’s no 1 and therefore BAI announces 10 lakh rupees cash award for Saina,” said Das.
Meanwhile, the ace badminton player’s father Harvir Singh Nehwal expressed his delight over his daughter’s achievement.
“This is matter of great happiness. Since the last six months she is playing good and this victory will also boost her morale,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Nehwal lifted the singles crown of the India Open Super Series Badminton tournament.
Nehwal defeated former world champion Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon 21-16, 21-14 in the final at the Siri Fort Indoor Complex.
In the Men’s final, second ranked Srikanth is slated to meet sixth-ranked Viktor Axelsen of Denmark. (ANI)
