Badaun gang-rape victims’ bodies will be exhumed: Report

In a new twist to the the gang-rape and killing of two girls in Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun district last month, a report on Tuesday said the victims’ bodies will be exhumed.

The report added that the post-mortem report of the victims was botched-up.

On Monday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) carried out lie-detector test on the fathers of the two cousin sisters.

CBI sources said the fathers of the rape victims, a family member and a witness were brought to undergo polygraph test at Central Forensic Science Laboratory in CGO complex in New Delhi.

Protesting the move, the victims’ brother Virendra along with the members of Naya Daur Party sat on fast unto death here at Jantar Mantar, alleging that CBI is harassing his family by subjecting his father to lie-detector test. Speaking to a news agency, he said CBI is focusing on the victims rather than the accused.

Two girls, both sisters, were gang-raped and then hanged from a tree outside their village in Badaun last month, leading to a national outrage. Even the United Nations and the US took note of the incident and aired their concern on the growing crimes against women in Uttar Pradesh.

The state government after initially trying to cover the issue relented and had ordered a CBI probe.
