Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said bad governance results in intolerance and discrimination.
“Good governance means everyday, every second, you have to deliver the goods. Bad governance means divide and rule, intolerance, and discrimination. That is not done,” Banerjee said at a pre-Christmas programme in the St Xavier’s College here.
Describing Christmas as a festival of tolerance, she said our origin was from “unity in diversity.”
Citing Swami Vivekananda and Rabindranath Tagore’s messages on unity in diversity, she said even our national anthem focuses on bringing all together.
“We pray to Jesus Christ to give us the strength to fight against evil, injustice and intolerance. Intolerance is for the time being, but tolerance is forever.
“You have to tolerate all these things. As humans we are bound to say we are together. The human body cannot divide like this that your kidney is different, your gall bladder is different or your heart is different,” she said adding, tolerance is our strength.
