New Delhi: Rajya Sabha MP Majeed Memon has demanded five per cent reservation to Muslims along with Maratha reservation. He made this demand in a letter written to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday.
Backing the demand for Maratha reservation, Mr Memon said that it was high time the government considered the proposal for five per cent reservation to Muslims. He asserted that the Bombay High Court had supported and justified reservations to the extent of five per cent to Muslims on the basis of findings recorded by the Sachar Committee.
Mr Memon had also submitted a memorandum to the CM in September 2015. Referring to the letter Mr Memon urged Mr Fadnavis to consider Muslim reservation to eliminate educational and economic backwardness of the large section of the society.
