Back to back ‘custodial deaths’ rocks Telangana state

A purported thief Marnindi Chakradhar Rao (57) died in police custody under similar circumstances in Miryalguda One Town police station on Saturday, similer to the death of a youth Shaik Haider in Nizamabad One Town police station.

According to sources Marnindi was detained for interrogation on court orders. He was said to be an inter-State burglar and was involved in over 80 theft cases in and around Nalgonda district and arrested by the Miryalguda police on March 22.

Police appealed the court seeking his custody for further interrogation. After he was handed over to police on Saturday morning, he is said to have been interrogated till late in the evening.

Strangely, both the incidents occurred in urban centres of Telangana where the government is keeping extra efforts in maintenance of law and order. A post-mortem of the body is being conducted by the doctors, and report is yet to be revealed.

Meanwhile, the death of Shaik Hyder (25), the team of the Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee said that Hyder succumbed to third degree methods adopted by police during interrogation.
