Bachelor Dalai Lama shares his mantra for a happy married life

Kolkata, December 02: The Dalai Lama chose to impart, some words of wisdom for a “ happy married life”, veering off from his usual statements on China at an event in Kolkata on Thursday.

Himself a bachelor, he said one should always go for the inner beauty of a person rather than superficial beauty.

“ Always go for the inner beauty of a person. If people marry only for the superficial beauty of a person, they will remain happy only for a few months then fight and later divorce or worse kill,” the Dalai Lama said bursting into laughter. He was in the city to deliver a lecture on world peace at the Indian Institute of Management ( IIM).

“ Once in order to pull the leg of a dear friend, I said your wife is not at all pretty looking.

He retorted ‘ I know, but you won’t find anyone with so much inner beauty as her. She has the most beautiful heart one can

“ I was speechless by his answer,” added the spiritual leader. The Tibetan leader was nonchalant about a note reportedly sent to the West Bengal government by the Chinese Consul in Kolkata, urging the state government officials not to attend the

function addressed by the Dalai Lama. He termed the Chinese objection “ quite a routine thing” as they ( China) still consider him a “ demon’ even though his position is semi- retired”. “ The Chinese officials consider me as a demon and they think my activities are anti- China. So they raise every objection. This has become like a routine thing now,” he said.

According to reports, Vice- Consul Yu Li in Kolkata had sent an official note to West Bengal home secretary G. D Gautama urging chief minister Mamata Banerjee and governor M. K. Narayanan not to attend functions addressed by the Tibetan leader on December 1.

But snubbing Bejing’s reservation, Narayanan, attended the programme by the spiritual leader on Mother Teresa.

Banerjee had been invited to the event too. However, the CM stayed out of the event for some unexplained reason. Sources said her mother was taken ill.
