Baby boy kidnapped from Unani Hospital

Hyderabad, July 19: A two-day infant was kidnapped from the Government Unani Hospital, popularly known as Nizamia Tibbi, at Charminar on Friday.

According to the police, an unidentified woman took the baby boy from his mother on the pretext of handing the infant to his grandmother who was waiting outside the hospital.

Police said a woman from Osmanbagh in Kamatipura, Nazia Begum, was admitted to the Government Unani hospital on the night of July 15 for delivery. Nazia Begum gave birth to a baby boy late in the night.

She was to be discharged from the hospital on Friday.

In the morning, Nazia Begum’s mother went to complete the formalities when an unidentified woman approached Nazia Begum.

“The woman asked Nazia Begum to give her the baby as the latter’s mother was waiting outside the hospital. Nazia Begum initially refused to hand over the boy, but the woman almost forced her to give her the baby,” Moghalpura police sub-inspector Raghavendra Rao said.

The woman did not return for long after which Nazia Begum launched a search for her in the hospital but failed to trace her. An inconsolable Nazia Begum then approached hospital authorities who informed the police.

Nazia Begum’s husband Mohammad Isaac is an auto driver.

“The woman who took the baby reportedly identified herself as a patient when Nazia Begum was admitted to the hospital and befriended her,” police said. A case of kidnap was registered and a hunt is launched to nab the woman and trace the infant.
