Guntur, November 15: An 18-day -old boy has gone missing from the government general hospital. It is the first such incident in the 60-year history of the hospital.
According to information, Agnivardhani, wife of Yohan of Choutuppayapalem in Rajupalem mandal, gave birth to a male child at home.
When the baby boy developed some complications, Yohan, a daily wage earner, took him to a private doctor at Piduguralla, who in turn referred the case to Guntur government general hospital. The newborn with some kidney problem was admitted to Guntur government hospital yesterday afternoon. He was kept under observation in the intensive care unit.
The night duty nurse was said to have given the boy to his mother around 7 am today. After completing her duty, she left the hospital, informing the matter to the day duty nurse.
Later, the boy went missing. His mother claimed that she handed over the boy to the day duty nurse soon after the night duty nurse left the hospital.
The day duty nurse contended that no baby boy was given to her. After conducting a preliminary inquiry into the incident, hospital superintendent D Phanibhushana Rao lodged a complaint with the Kothapet police.
