Hyderabad, January 31: Describing his padayatra against corruption as totally ‘apolitical’, Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu vowed to consult like-minded parties and NGOs and fight against graft in public life.
Mr Naidu had earlier embarked on the padayatra from Golconda Military Hospital and reached Bapu Ghat at Langar Houz where he offered rich floral tributes to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of his 63rd death anniversary.
Speaking to media persons later, the former chief minister revealed that he is seeking a nationwide debate on the Lokpal Bill. He also urged all parties across the country to help the TDP in getting the Bill passed.
Mr Naidu said that the Bill should bring the Prime Ministers and all his Cabinet colleagues, apart from all other Legislators, bureaucrats and judges under its purview.
Veteran Telugu journalist Potturi Venkateshwarlu participated in the padayatra, which was led by Mr Naidu.
The NTR Memorial Trust had organised the march in association with non-governmental organisations following a call given by civil groups for a nation-wide campaign against corruption to mark death anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.
Mr Naidu reiterated that he would intensify his campaign against corruption across the country after consulting like-minded parties and NGOs.
He said the campaign was aimed at creating public awareness on the magnitude of corruption and termed it as apolitical.
Mr Potturi Venkateshwarlu administered an oath to the participants that they would fight corruption in every nook and corner of the country
