Babu to visit Godavari districts: crop holiday

Hyderabad, August 05: Senior Telugu Desam Party leader Kodela Shiva Prasad on Thursday stated that the party president N Chandrababu Naidu would visit East and West Godavari districts to collect first hand information on pathetic state of farmers, who declared recently `crop holiday’ protesting the failure of state government in providing minimum support price for their produce.

Addressing media persons at NTR Trust Bhavan, Mr Shiva Prasad said that Mr Naidu would visit Godavari districts on August 11-12 and interact with farmers personally to collect first hand information.

Slamming the state government for not bothering about the farmers woes, he said that the farmers in Godavari districts declared `crop holiday’ voluntarily in 2 lakh acres due to government’s failure to provide minimum support price on farm produce.

Demanding compensation of Rs 10,000 per acre, the senior leader asked the government to provide seeds and fertilisers on subsidised price.

Mr Shiva Prasad said that the government should announce package for farmers on the lines of Karnataka government. He reiterated that the party would intensify its fight for cause of farmers until they get due justice from the government.
