Babu demands justice for ryots from CM

Hyderabad May 16 (INN): Telugu Desam Party president and Leader of the Opposition N Chandrababu Naidu along with senior party leaders met Chief Minister K Rosaiah at the Chief Minister’s Camp Office on Sunday, to discuss the plight of farmers and appeal that ‘justice’ be done to them.
Talking to media persons after his meeting, Mr Naidu said he had toured some parts of the state during the last three weeks to gain firsthand knowledge of the plight of farmers in the state.
The former chief minister said that though he had approached the Chief Minister over a very serious matter, the response he got from Mr Rosaiah and the Minister for Agriculture N Raghuveera Reddy was lukewarm.
He said that he had tried to give the government essential data that explained the grievous scenario of the farmers, and that he hoped that the government will respond immediately.
Mr Naidu said that he did not receive any concrete assurance from the Chief Minister whether he will order a review meeting over the plight of the farmers.
The TDP chief said that he brought to the notice of Mr Rosaiah that farmers in the state are facing huge losses due to the drought and then floods. He said that each farmer stood to lose at least Rs three lakh because of these natural calamities. He said that farmers aren’t getting enough revenue, not even the amount they invested.
Power shortage and drought are aggravating the already precarious position of the farmers, he continued. He said that if the government does not take immediate steps to help the farmers, it will take a decade for the farmers to recoup their losses.
Mr Naidu said that he had made this visit to the Camp Office because he wanted to highlight the gravity of the situation.
The former chief minister said that he brought to the notice of the Chief Minister problems faced by paddy, subabul and tobacco farmers.
The TDP chief announced that he will lead a delegation to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar if the state government does not act to alleviate the farmers’ sufferings.
The former CM said that the government was responsible for the protection of farmers’ interests.
