Babri was VHP’s job, BJP just claimed credit

New Delhi, September 10: Claiming that the Babri Masjid demolition was a result of Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s strength and not the result of the BJP’s efforts, VHP chief Ashok Singhal on Wednesday said the BJP needed to change its leadership.

“I have told them that they took out raths to get arrested, but it was our people who gathered at the Babri site within five hours. BJP has no connection with the Ram temple issue as whatever was done was done by our ‘karsevaks’,” said Singhal while talking to reporters on Wednesday.

He also said that the BJP lost the recent Lok Sabha elections because it did not espouse the cause of Hindus. It will happen again if they do not change their stand, he added. “There is growing dissent among the party workers. Let them talk and take a decision for themselves. The party is about to break if they don’t think about the problems,” he added. “For people like us who protect the Hindu religion, BJP is an Opposition party. We have never backed the BJP. We have only said that vote for those who protect the Hindu tenets. There is a need for a party which protects interests of Hindus,” he added.
