Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi dispute: Dr Zafarul Islam Khan issues clarification

New Delhi: Following the controversy over his statement regarding out of court settlement of Babri Masjid dispute and proposal for RSS intervention, Delhi Minority Commission Chairman and former president of the All India Muslim Majlis Mushavirat Dr Zafarul Islam said that his comment has been presented wrongly. While supporting out-of-court settlement, I had put Supreme Court, the central government and the RSS on 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. As the three of them have implementation power, he said.

In a statement issued on Sunday Dr Islam said ‘I had put RSS on 3rd position because it has complete control over outfits who politicize and riot in the name of Ram temple.’ He further said the then chief justice of Supreme Court Justice Khehar himself had offered mediation for out-of-court settlement of the dispute. He said another important aspect of the issue is that the court’s decision will be in favour of one party and against another. Due to which the conflict will continue in the future as well, thus putting the life and property of Muslims in danger. On the other hand, a solution with mutual agreement will satisfy both the parties and the issue will be resolved forever. I never said the court case should be stopped. If any amicable solutions is found, the parties will inform the court and appeal to withdraw the case, he stated.
