Mr. Aziz Qureshi, who has recently been removed as Governor of Mizoram challenged Govt. of India to constitute an enquiry committee to probe allegations of his malfunctioning as Governor of Uttarakhand. He said that he is ready to be hanged if proved guilty. It was alleged that he showed undue favour in extending the term of Vice Chancellors of two universities and also in Uttarakhand Raj Bhavan Golf Club case. He termed these allegations as fake. However, he said that misuse of state aircraft might be a technical error.
It may be noted that soon after his swearing in at Raj Bhavan at Aizawl on 9th January, Mr. Quraishi has told that that he did not consider State “A Dumping ground” . He had refused to resign after the formation of Modi Govt. in the center. He went to court against his removal.
When asked about the reasons for his removal, Mr. Quraishi said that no reason has been given. He also said that his petition is pending in Supreme Court and no civil society or civil administration would venture to go against the Judiciary. He said that he will abide by the Court order. He quoted the state made by his predecessor, Mr. Purushothaman that Governors cannot be treated like clerks. It is degrading the position. Governor’s post is a constitutional appointment. He further clarified that during the tenure of his office as Governor of Uttarakhand, he was never partial. This could be verified from BJP or RSS members.
