Azam Khan accuses Cong. of playing politics on Muslim reservation

Taking a dig at Congress, the Uttar Pradesh Urban Development and Minority Affairs Minister Mohammad Azam Khan on Saturday said that the Congress is playing politics on the issue of Muslim quota. He cautioned that the Congress would be thrown out of power in the next Lok Sabha elections, if Muslims are not given reservations proportionate to their population.

He asked why the constitution cannot be amended for Muslims when it was done for giving reservations to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes. He referred to the findings of Sachar Committee report which revealed that the educational and socio-economic conditions of Muslims were worse than the Dalits.

Azam Khan is deemed to be the “Muslim face” of the Samajwadi Party.
