Azad meets PM, discusses issues about AIIMS

New Delhi, February 19: Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and discussed a range of issues relating to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, including its proposed modernisation plans.

Azad also made a presentation before the Prime Minister on the Valiathan committee report on the modernisation of the premier institute, health ministry officials said.

The minister also apprised Singh about other issues relating to the AIIMS, including the number of vacancies and exodus of senior doctors to private institutes.

At least 10 senior AIIMS doctors have resigned over the last one year to take up posts in private medical institutes.

Prominent among them are head of neurosurgery V S Mehta, professor of medicine Anoop Misra and head of surgery S N Mehta.
