Hyderabad,January 24 :The All India Congress Committee ( AICC) general secretary is said to be looking for a bridegroom for his daughter in Hyderabad rather than in his home state of Jammu & Kashmir.
Azad, who is also the AICC incharge of Andhra Pradesh affairs, came to Hyderabad recently for participating in the party’s coordination committee meeting at Gandhi Bhavan, the state headquarters of the Congress.
In a departure from practice, this time he also brought along his wife Shameem, who is a prominent Kashmiri singer.
The couple stayed at a five- star hotel instead of the state- run Lake View Guesthouse, where he normally stays.
Sources in the state Congress said that after the party meeting got over, Azad and his wife attended a get- together at the hotel with the family members of Buisnessman , a prominent real estate dealer and builder in Hyderabad.
Azad has apparently proposed to marry off his daughter Sofia to Real estate buisnessman son, who is in the restaurant business. “ It was just a preliminary round of talks. The alliance is yet to be finalised,” the sources claimed.
Would be Father in law who owns a number of commercial complexes in Hyderabad, is a well- known name in the state’s political and business circles. His name was in the reckoning for a Rajya Sabha seat on behalf of the Congress in 2010.
It is learnt that a former state minister who is also a real estate broker and involved in the sale of lot of wakf properties specially during YSR period and minted money is mediating between the Azad and buisnessman families to finalise the matrimonial alliance.
“ If everything works out well, Azad would finalise the proposal during his next visit to Hyderabad,” the sources added.
