Bengaluru: Terming the unanimous verdict of the Supreme Court in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title case as historic, Karnataka’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appealed to all sections of the people to maintain peace and harmony.
“We welcome the unanimous verdict on the title of the 2.77-acre disputed land in favour of the Hindus by upholding the petition of the Ram Lalla (child Ram) Virajman, the presiding deity of the Hindu god and dismissing the claims of the Uttar Pradesh Sunni Wakf Board and the Nirmohi Akhara,” party’s state unit spokesman G. Madhusudana told IANS here.
A 5-member constitutional bench, headed by Chief Justie Ranjan Gogoi delivered the judgement in New Delhi, directing the Centre to hand over the disputed land to the Hindus for building a Ram temple.
Earlier, security was tightened across the city and schools and colleges ordered to remain shut on Saturday in view of the verdict.
