Ayodhya case: Recording of evidence begins

Lucknow, August 23: After framing of charges against 23 accused in the Ayodhya demolition case, the Special Court today started recording evidence with the first CBI witness deposing before it.

The then Station Officer of the Ram Janmabhoomi Police Station, P N Shukla, who registered the case on December six, 1992, appeared before the Special Court (Ayodhya Prakaran) here.

The examination-in chief of the first witness was completed today, CBI counsel K P Singh said adding he would be cross-examined on August 31.

After framing of charges against the accused, the process of recording evidence in the case pertaining to the demolition of Babri mosque got underway today, he said.

On August 17, charges were framed against VHP leader Acharya Dharmendra Deo, SP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, BJP MLA Lalu Singh, then Faizabad DM R N Srivastava and 19 others.
