Hyderabad: Chief Secretary SK Joshi today directed the collectors to speed up steps on solid waste management in the districts. The chief secretary held a video conference at Secretariat and instructed the collectors to take immediate steps to set up district-level committees and prepare a plan on solid waste management as per guidelines of Green Tribunal. He directed the collectors to ensure that awareness is created in villages and towns on the shifting of waste from each house-hold.

Joshi discussed on the issues like biomedical waste, pollution of rivers, air and illegal mining of sand in the villages. The chief secretary instructed the collectors to take municipal commissioners to visit the Solid Waste Management Plant in Jeedimetla in the city. The collectors should take immediate steps to set up dumping yards in all villages and towns will get their own dumping yards as also the garbage be shifted to outskirts with top priority. Conduct training programs to ensure that households participate in the process of protecting the environment by shifting the garbage through vehicles of civic bodies.

This will give them total understanding as to how to deal with solid waste management, shifting of dust and garbage from the villages and shifting them to outskirts at a selected place, he said. Joshi also asked the collectors to motivate the municipalities and civic bodies on the shifting of waste and garbage from the houses by pressing staff and using autos and rickshaws.
