Dr Kiran Peddi, consultant gastroenterologist, Global Hospitals, Hyderabad suggests that people should avoid binge drinking during the festival season ahead. During the festivals season, most of the people get carried away and get over indulgent.
According to him, binge drinking is defined as episodic excessive drinking. It usually means consuming an excess amount of alcohol in a short period of time. He advised people to avoid this as heavy regular binge drinking is associated with adverse effects on the liver, brain, heart, and pancreas. According to WHO guidelines, men should drink no more than 21 units of alcohol per week and they must have at least two alcohol-free days a week. Women should drink no more than 14 units of alcohol per week, no more than three units in any one day, and have at least two alcohol-free days a week.
Binge drinking is common among young generation during parties.
