Autos to go off the road from today

Autos in the GHMC area would go off the road from May 16 indefinitely in protest against the RTA and Traffic Police authorities’ “double standards” and demanding immediate settlement of Auto Drivers’ just grievances, including arrest of the Ola and Uber cab companies managements, withdrawal of Auto permit cancellation order and issue of spot challans instead of e-challan system.

The Auto drivers JAC was also demanding that there should be no RTA and Traffic Police special drives till such time the existing auto fares are also not increased on par with other neighboring States. Talking to the media here on Sunday, Mohd Amanullah Khan, TADJAC convener, demanded that the Chief Minister fulfill his promise to issue DLs to Auto drivers without VIII Class Pass. He also demanded a total ban on diesel-run cabs as it was done in Delhi capital city. He also complained that the auto third party insurance charges per annum were just Rs 2,900 when the exiting auto fares were revised, last time in February  2014, but now the same third party insurance charges have been raised to Rs 4800.  He said the main reason for the auto derivers demanding extra fare is the high cost of living, including vehicle operational charges.

TADJAC leaders M.A Saleem, K. Laxminarasaiah, Mohd. Dastagir, SKKB Zama, Narsing Rao Mudiraj and Sheik Raheem were present. (NSS)
