Two men were booked in criminal cases for allegedly tried to rape a woman home guard (from the Kankipadu police station) on Tuesday.
According to Kankipadu Sub-Inspector B. Gunaram, 28-year-old M. Rajeswari had taken an autorick-shaw on Monday night. She was on her way home. But, on the way, she was attacked by the autorickshaw driver and his partner in crime. The men took her to an isolated area, and as the accomplice stood watch, the autorickshaw driver attempted to rape Ms Rajeswari.
However, locals, who heard her screams rushed to her rescue. An identification parade was conducted by the police to identify the accused.
