Autorickshaw driver dies under mysterious circumstances

New Delhi: A 51-year-old autorickshaw driver today died under mysterious circumstances when a crane was towing away his vehicle for being parked in a no-parking zone in north Delhi’s Kashmere Gate, the police said.

The incident took place around 12 pm near Mawa Mandi.

Saifuddin, who was sitting at a distance, saw his vehicle being towed away by a crane and apparently out of shock collapsed at the spot, a police officer said.

The traffic police personnel tried to revive him by giving him mouth to mouth resuscitation and water but failed.

They then informed the district police and the driver was rushed to Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital.

Saifuddin was declared dead by the doctors, he added.

“Prima facie he died due to a cardiac arrest. We are awaiting the autopsy report to ascertain the exact cause of death,” the officer said.

Dismissing allegations about the traffic police personnel taking time to shift Saifuddin to hospital, the police claimed that the man was not keeping well for a long time and was suffering from tuberculosis.
