Automated Traffic Red Light system launched in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, June 06: Helmet rule will be effectively implemented in twin cities henceforth to prevent serious injuries to two wheeler riders when accidents take place. Director General of Police (DGP) RR Girish Kumar said that the city police are keen to formulate the city as a trouble free trafficfree zone by introducing latest technologies for smooth ride on city streets.

He was speaking after inaugurating two latest technologies in the Hyderabad Commissionerate such as automated traffic Red Light and speed violation enforcement system and Mobile Traffic Surveillance and Enforcement System to prevent traffic snarls in the Commissionerate limits.

Addressing the gathering, Girish Kumar said the Hyderabad Commissionerate has been equipped with two cyber technologies to reduce traffic snarls. He said that the Automated Traffic Red Light and speed violation enforcement System would ensure total elimination of human discretion that generally results in conflict between police and vehicle riders. The Red Light Detection System has been installed at various places including Patny, CTO, SR Nagar junctions, RTC Cross roads, M J Market, Jubilee Hills check post, Madina junction, Srinagar colony, Ravindra Bharathi and VV statue junction in the city.

CV Anand, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) said that there is need to create awareness among the vehicleriders to comply with the traffic rules and regulations for smooth ride on city streets.

Explaining the features of the Automated Traffic Red Light and speed violation enforcement System, Anand said the system has electronic sensors which have been placed at selected junctions and, which are integrated to the video and digital cameras with flash and an industrial PC mounted on a pole.

“As the signal turns red, the system becomes active and detects the violating vehicles. In the process, video camera starts recording the violation and simultaneously the digital camera captures the photographs of the violating vehicles. The violation data is processed and a traffic challan is generated along with the image registration plate and send to the owner of the vehicle by inland letter which contains all the details of violation including photographic evidence, date, location and place of violation,” he said

He said that the fine amount can be remitted in any eSeva or AP Online centers in the city.

“If the violator neglects the notice served on him, the same date will be sent to PDA system and the violator will be detained at any location of PDA checking point by the traffic police,” Anand said.

At least Rs 4.5 crore has spent on the project. The latest technology is executed by the Hyderabadbased company Unihz Technologies and Matrix security and Surveillance Private Limited.

Hyderabad and Cyberabad commissioners A K Khan and S Prabhakar Reddy also attended.
