Autolifters’ gang smahed

New Delhi, February 19:With the arrest of three persons, police today claimed to have smashed a gang of autolifters and recovered 10 stolen motorcycles from them.

21-year-old Loknath, along with Ramniwas alias Ballan, was arrested on Sunday last after getting inputs that a gang was active in Dwarka locality and its members were going to Mathura in Uttar Pradesh with a stolen motorcycle to sell it.

After being stopped near Dwarka underpass, they were asked to produce the papers, but they could not, so both of them were arrested, a senior police official said.

During interrogation, Loknath said he had stolen the motorcycle a few days earlier from Najafgarh area and he had called Ballan from UP and both of them were heading towards Mathura for selling it.

Loknath said that he along with one Rajesh and Mahender alias Chela used to commit theft of motorcycles in various parts of Delhi and sell them to Ballan of Mathura and one Pramod of Agra.

The accused revealed that they had sold motorcycles in Mathura, Agra and Gwalior.

A police team then conducted raids in Mathura, Agra and other places in UP and arrested Pramod. Four stolen motorcycles were also recovered.

Four other motorcycles were recovered from Mathura on the instance of Ballan while Loknath provided the information about one more stolen motorcycle, which was recovered from Chhawla area.

Police has sent a team to various places in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh to search for absconding autolifters Rajesh and Mahender and remaining motorcycles as well as other receivers, the official said.

According to police, Parmod is a history sheeter of Sikandara area of Agra district and had been involved in a number of cases of dacoity, robbery, thefts and a murder.
