Auto unions plan indefinite strike from today

Hyderabad, February 10: As a knee-jerk reaction to the proposed special drive by traffic police, the Telangana Auto Drivers Joint Action Committee (TADJAC) threatened to go on an indefinite strike from Thursday midnight, demanding postponement of the special drive.

This is not the first time TADJAC has threatened to go on an indefinite strike. A few months ago, police decided to stop the special drive, following hue and cry by auto unions.

In a statement, TADJAC members demanded the existing minimum fare of Rs. 14, which was hiked recently, should be revised again. Union members alleged that auto fare chats distributed by police are defective and should be withdrawn.

A couple of days ago, traffic police had made it mandatory for autowallahs to hang the new rate charts in their autos.

Union members also demanded the system of share autos to be controlled by police as it was affecting auto drivers plying autos with meters.
