(Siasat News) Road Transport Authority, Govt. of A.P. has prepared a proposal for Auto fares hike. The scheme is likely to be presented to Govt. tomorrow (Saturday). If Govt. approves the proposal made by RTA, the auto fare may go up to Rs. 16 or 17 for every 1.6 km distance. At present his fare is Rs. 14 for this distance and on every additional km it is Rs. 9.50.

RTA officials conducted a meeting with all the three Unions of Auto drivers and consulted them about the enhancement of auto fares. The auto fares were last revised in 2010. When the prices of petrol and LPG were increased, Auto Drivers’ Unions had given a notice on 19th July to Transport Department demanding the increase in auto fares. They had warned the Dept. that if auto fares are not increased, all the auto drivers will go on strike from 1st August 2012. They alleged that the Govt. had promised to increase auto fares but it didn’t fulfill its promise.
