Auto Expo 2016: Vehicles unveiled on Day 1

New Delhi :India’s flagship biennial automobile show, the Auto Expo, kicked off on Wednesday. The first two days of the 2016 Auto Expo is open to media and business visitors and will be opened for public during February 5-9. Over 80 new products will be launched at the expo and an estimated seven lakh visitors are expected. Here are some of the vehicles that made their way to the show on Day 1:

Compact SUV Vitara Brezza
Vitara Brezza is among the first of a new range of products in which the company’s Indian engineers have played a bigger role in designing and development as parent Suzuki looks to enhance its base here. The model will compete with the likes of Ford EcoSport, Mahindra TUV300, besides being pitched against Renault Duster and Hyundai Creta which are priced in the range of Rs 6.79 lakh to Rs 13.77 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Vitara Brezza is the second of the 15 new models that MSI will launch in the next five years as it aims to sell two million units annually by 2020. MSI had showcased the concept of the compact SUV as XA Alpha in the 2012 Auto Expo held in the Capital.
Hyundai Tucson SUV

Tucson is slated to be launched later this year. Hyundai, which sells SUVs like Creta and Santa Fe, also showcased a concept of a sub-4 meter SUV called HND-14. The concept will be the entry-level model for Hyundai to complete its range in the SUV segment. HND-14 will be positioned below Creta and complete the SUV line up of the company with Tucson. Tucson is to be slotted above Creta. With HND-14, Hyundai’s family of SUVs will have five products, including Santa Fe, Tucson, Creta, and Active i20.
Isuzu D-MAX V-Cross

The adventure utility vehicle D-MAX V-Cross would be manufactured from April at its Sri City plant in Andhra Pradesh. Powered by a 134 hp, BS-IV compliant, high pressure Common Rail Fuel Injection diesel engine, D-MAX V-Cross is a second generation pickup and is currently available in Europe, Australia, Thailand and South America. The company has also expanded its dealership network to 27 locations is looking to increase it further.

Suzuki Access 125
Suzuki Motorcycle India has unveiled a new version of its popular scooter ‘Access 125’ and upgraded ‘Gixxer’ motorcycle series. The company said the all-new Access 125 will be available in India from April. It had launched Access 125 in 2007 Suzuki Motorcycle today unveiled two variants of Gixxer—Gixxer and Gixxer SF-Fi.
Hero Splendor iSmart 110

Hero MotoCorp has unveiled its first in-house developed motorcycle, Splendor iSmart 110. The firm also unveiled three other vehicles—premium segment sports bike Xtreme 200 S, design concept bike XF3R and an electric scooter concept Duet-E. Splendor iSmart 110 is the company’s first completely in-house developed motorcycle, since separating from erstwhile partner Honda.Splendor iSmart 110 is powered by an air cooled, single cylinder four stroke 110cc engine. The engine is mated to a four speed gear-box. Showcasing a directional guidance on future products in the super-premium category, Hero MotoCrop has unveiled the Xtreme 200 S.

It comes packed with enhanced performance and assured riding capabilities with rear mono suspension and safety features such as ABS. It is powered by an air cooled single cylinder, four stroke 200cc engine and has a 5-speed gear-box.The XF3R provides a glimpse into the future of Hero’s design and development for performance sports bikes beyond 250cc. Besides, the electric scooter concept, Duet-E, is aimed at providing comfortable, convenient and environment friendly commuting option. The scooter has been based on the current production series scooter, the Duet, to make it cost effective.

Honda NAVI 110 cc

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has launched 110 cc bike NAVI at the Auto Expo as it aims to cross 50 lakh unit sales in the country this year aided by the production at its fourth plant in Gujarat. Bookings for the NAVI, which is priced at Rs 39,500 (ex-showroom Delhi) starts from today while the deliveries would begin from April onwards.

HMSI also unveiled its 1000 cc superbike CRF1000L Africa Twin which the company expects to launch at a later stage. Besides, the company unveiled refreshed versions of four models – CD 110 Dream, Dream Neo, CB Unicorn 160 and scooter model Dio.
Piaggio two-wheeler crossover Aprilia SR 150

Italian two-wheeler maker Piaggio, manufacturer of Vespa scooters, has forayed into India’s premium two-wheeler market by unveiling sports scooter-bike Aprilia SR 150. The model, which will be launched in August, is a blend of motorbikes and scooter and sports a 150cc engine. The crossover will have 14-inch wheels like motorbikes and auto-gears like scooters. Besides Aprilia, Piaggio group also exhibited vehicles from Vespa and Moto Guzzi brands at the 13th Auto Expo.

JLR Jaguar Xe sports saloon

Tata Motors-owned JLR has launched the all-new Jaguar XE sports saloon priced at Rs 39.9 lakh and Rs 46.5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The new Jaguar XE sports saloon will be assembled in India as part of the company’s move to increase localisation. Jaguar XE will be available in two petrol engine options with power output of 147 KW priced at Rs 39.9 lakh and 177 KW at Rs 46.5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the company said. Apart from Jaguar XE, JLR is also showcasing six new products in India including the Discovery Sport, Range Rover SV Autobiography, Jaguar F Type Coupe, Jaguar F Pace and Jaguar XF.

Mercedes GLC, S-Class Cabriolet

German luxury carmaker Mercedes Benz has unveiled sports utility vehicle GLC and S-Class Cabriolet, at the 13th Delhi Auto Expo. It also showcased its premium luxury Maybach S 60 Guard. The new GLC offers the dynamic select handling control system with five-driving progammes as standard. In addition to the Eco, Comfort, Sport Plus and Individual Settings, which are familar from other models, the new car is also equipped with the off-road engineering package.

Honda’s 7-seater BR-V

Honda cars India has unveiled its seven-seater crossover utility vehicle ‘BR-V’ which has been exclusively developed for the Asian markets including India. The vehicle is scheduled to be launched in the country this year.
