Telangana Auto Drivers Joint Action Committee held a protest demonstration at Transport Bhavan here, alleging that the Transport Department is not allotting the remaining 1788 new autos to genuine auto drivers.
Mohd. Amanullah Khan, Convenor, said in a press note today that The Transport Department has decided to allot the permits to old applicants onlu despite the demand of the Unions that all the pending applications be cancelled and the autos be allotted only to the new applicants. Addressing the drivers, Amanullah Khan alleged that certain tansport officials are in hand-in-glove with some auto dealers and financiers and they are openly supporting them by deciding that the autos be allotted to the pending applicants. He said there is no point in granting permits to the pending applicants as they were already given 120 days time to purchase autos, but they have failed to get the autos within the stipulated period. Hence, there is no meaning to allot autos to the old applicants. He alleged that the Transport Commissioner is not following the directions given in G O No.14, that the remaining autos should be allotted to the open category.
After demonstration for some time, a delegation presented a memorandum to the Transport Commissioner. (NSS)
