Auto drivers demand more CNG stations in city

Twin-Cities Auto Rickshaw Owners’ Welfare Association has demanded the state government to set up more Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) filling stations in the city.
Speaking to the media persons here on Sunday, Association working president Mohammed Amanullah Khan lamented that though the state government has declared to implement Bhurelal committee recommendations, it has failed to implement the same so far. He said that due to shortage of filling stations in the city, Auto drivers were facing severe problems to fill up CNG into Auto Rickshaws. Due to shortage of CNG, most of the Auto drivers were changing their Auto Richshaws into Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).
He demanded the state government to provide compensation to the Auto Drivers, who were forced to wait for filling up gas at CNG filling stations, at Rs.15 for each hour. He demanded the state government to supply CNG to meet the demand in the city.
Association president M.A. Saleem said that the High Court has given stay on G.O No.90,which permitted 20,000 new auto Rickshaws in the city. He said that before the High Court stay order,Auto drivers had bought 300 Auto Rickshaws in the city. He appealed to the government to register these 300 T/R Auto Rickshaws.
He demanded the state government to immediately withdraw e-Challan system, which was introduced to target the Auto Drivers, in the city. He wanted the state government to give exemption from the Motor Vehicle Tax to the Auto Rickshaws which were running since the last five years. He threatened that if the state government failed to concede their demands within 15 days, they would lay siege to the Transport Commissioner Office in the city.
