A delegation of New Telangana Auto Drivers Trade Union (NTADTU) led by their president Syed Jameel on Wednesday called upon Labour Minister Danam Nagender at his residence alleging harassment by the city police in the name of e-challans.
They demanded that the State Government instruct the police to refrain from harassing the auto drivers. They also demanded the constitution of Auto Drivers Labour Welfare Board for the welfare of the drivers and pointed out that other states too have such type of boards for the upliftment of the drivers. There are 1.5 lakh auto drivers in the Telangana region who are working hard in the city for their livelihood, they said.
They alleged that the authorities of APSRTC and RTA were also harassing the auto drivers in the name of challans and seizing their vehicles by claiming that corporation has been running in loss due to the autos plying in the State. They also appealed that Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia be paid to the families of the drivers who gets killed due to road accidents.
Union State General Secretary A Ravi and others were also part of the delegation.
