Auto-driver takes girl student 25 kms away from destination

Hyderabad: Swaroopa, a 21-year-old, engineering graduate from Kondapur, was taken on a ride by an auto driver took her in a wrong direction. The girl went to meet her friend at IIT-Hyderabad campus at Kandi on Saturday. At around 2 pm she got into a bus and went to Kandi in Sangareddy. Swaroopa disembarked from the bus at Kandi and boarded an auto to go to the IIT-H campus, about two kilometres away. The auto driver drove beyond the IIT campus and turned into Daulatabad road.

According to Times of India Jinnaram circle inspector (CI) S Venkat told that the driver was in an inebriated condition. At the petrol bunk, He picked up an argument with a biker. The staff of the petrol bunk advised Swaroopa to get down from the vehicle, but she continued her journey without realising she was going away from her destination.

Meanwhile Vijaya called Swaroopa to know the reason for delay on which Swaroopa sent her location details through WhatsApp. Realising that Swaroopa is being taken on wrong direction, she asked her friend to give phone to auto-driver which he kept in his pocket after talking to her.

Vijaya and her friends then alerted police. When the auto driver slowed down to talk to his passenger at Hatnur, the panicked Swaroopa took the chance and got down from the vehicle and ran.

The accused was apprehended with the help of CCTV visuals. Victim’s phone and hand bag, containing Rs 1,000, Aadhaar card, PAN card and a debit card were recovered from his possession.
