Chander ‘Anthony’ (50) an auto driver in the day and a burglar at night got arrested in Bengaluru. The police raided his house after a series of complaints regarding thefts were lodged.
Police found 2.317 kg of gold, 3.750 kg of silver, Rs. 5 lakh in cash, two cars, an autorickshaw and a couple of two-wheelers in his house. Altogether worth Rs. 80 lakh.
Inspector S. Balachandra Nayak of Viveknagar Police station formed a team when he noticed a spike in house break-ins in Koramangala-S.T. Bed Layout, to track down the culprit. Through CCTV footage and with the help of informers, Inspector Nayak was led to Chander.
The police believed that they have cracked 11 cases of theft in Viveknagar Police Station limits, seven each in Koramangala and Vyalikaval, five in Ashoknagar and two in Sheshadripuram.
The police say that Chander is an auto driver in day and a thief at night. Nearly three decades ago, he was jailed for a series of thefts in Kolar Gold Field (KGF),after that he moved to Bengaluru .
He has two wives, one lives in Banaswadi and another in Maruti Seva Nagar with their children in a rented houses.
