Hyderabad, September 20: An auto driver was allegedly beaten to death by workers of a private fan manufacturing company, after he tried to steal copper wires from the premises.
The deceased, Shiva (25) was a resident of Indira Nagar and was an auto driver for Ketan Fans situated at Balanagar.
Balanagar police said Shiva entered the fan company around 2 a.m on Sunday by scaling the compound wall in an inebriated condition. “Shiva stuffed copper wires in a gunny bag and was leaving the place when some workers caught him red-handed,” Balanagar police inspector Y Venkat Reddy said.
Shiva reportedly beat up the workers who later retaliated. The workers overpowered him and beat him up till he fell unconscious, according to the inspector. The workers then left him at the place and kept a guard so that he could not escape. In the morning, they called up the auto owner and told him about the incident. The auto owner shifted Shiva to a private hospital where doctors announced him brought dead.
“We have registered a case under Section 174 (suspicious death) and are waiting for the post-mortem report. If it is found that he died of injuries caused by the workers, we will alter it to Section 302 (murder),” Venkat Reddy said. Police said three workers of the company might have been involved in the attack on Shiva.
